Dedicated to hillwalking, climbing

and mountaineering in Scotland

Cairn Ban Mountaineering Club (CBMC) was formed in 1981. We are based in Kilbarchan (south-west of Glasgow), but our members live much dispersed throughout the central belt of Scotland and far beyond.

We have a very mixed membership, from relative novices who like to walk in the security of a group, to experienced climbers and mountaineers (including an Everest summiteer and a mountain rescue team member). Some, due to family and other commitments, venture out only a few times each year, while others get out on the hills nearly every weekend  (and on days in between as well!).

We are affiliated to Mountaineering Scotland, which gives members access to huts, insurance and other benefits.

A selection of reports, musings and general nonsense from the club archives.

Links to webcams in Scotland to help you assess conditions in the mountains.

As of 22 March, all club activities have been cancelled or postponed. Yes, it's a tedious state of affairs, but until this damned virus crisis is sorted out, that's the way it has to be.

In the meantime, you can still browse our website, and you can contact us via Stay healthy, and we hope to see you in the hills when it's all over.
