Welcome
to Cairn Ban Mountaineering Club

Cairn Ban Mountaineering Club (CBMC) was formed in 1980, based in Kilbarchan, near Glasgow. It began as a winter mountaineering club, but developed into hillwalking throughout the year, in Scotland and beyond.

Today our members live much dispersed throughout the central belt of Scotland and far beyond. We have a very mixed membership: some are relative novices and like to walk in the security of a group, others are experienced climbers and mountaineers, including an Everest summiteer; some prefer summertime hillwalking conditions, whilst others revel in winter snow and ice. We all have different skills and preferences, but we share a passion for Scotland’s hills and mountains.

The club has regular Sunday outings and weekend trips during the winter months to explore and experience the Scottish hills and mountains. Members meet and arrange other events throughout the rest of the year as well, mainly around Scotland but also foreign trips, and climbing sessions at indoor walls and outdoor crags too.

We are affiliated to Mountaineering Scotland, which gives members access to huts, insurance and other benefits.
